As a newborn, my LO wasn’t big enough for the one-size pocket diapers, so he was in paper about six weeks before his cloth fit. For a future babe I may look into buying some newborn size cloth diapers. We also use cloth swim diapers – we have Alva Baby. I’ve been very happy with those, too.
Many parents like the idea of having their newborn in cloth from day 1, but its difficult to know what size/weight your baby will be before he/she is born! If you have a 10lb-er they would barely fit into newborn diapers and could probably go straight into birth-to-potty diapers without them being too bulky.
For the newborn prefolds, they'll work great as doublers for overnight (or after the kid discovers water bottles). It's slightly less bulky than using 2 small prefolds but gives a similar level of performance. As for clothes, cloth diapers usually make the kid size up in pants/onesies.
